Potty Training

Potty Training

When life hits you and you realize it’s time for potty training, you can prepare for it but there is nothing that will really prepare you for the challenges you and your child face.

I’m potty training my 2 ½ year old, Prince Nonap right now and it is a challenge. I really think it’s like having a baby for the first time. It’s rewarding and hard. You want to cry and laugh and shout for joy all in one hour of the day.

For the last two days now, Prince Nonap hasn’t understood how he needs to put his pee in the toilet instead of his pants. He has been doing very well with his poop but I think that is because I know when during the day he is ready to poop. I have a glimmer of hope with going pee in the toilet because I tried something different which was to leave him in on the toilet to see what he would do. As soon as I did he started the thought process by looking down at his potty and letting it go, this maybe the way to teach him.

Tips to remember for Potty Training:

1. Get excited and don’t ever get mad at an accident. Be sensitive.

2. Keep your child in on the potty as long as possible but when he/she is ready to get down let them. (Never force).

3. Start letting your child help wipe before they ever start potty training. (Makes a big difference).

4. Rewards! After going in the potty or trying, give them a treat or toy for their efforts.

5. If an accident happens, put your child on the potty right after so they start to get that connection.

6. Wash hands every time your child tries to go potty.

7. Watch the clock; try every ½ hour to get your child to go potty.

8. Motivation! Prince Nonap gets a bike after he goes potty in the toilet and fills his potty chart with stickers.

9. Easy accessible pants, your child can’t go potty if they can’t pull down their pants.

10. Drinks! Your child is going to need to drink even though you want them not to pee all over the floor, drinks will give them more opportunity to pee in the toilet.

11. Be consistent!!! And don’t give up hope you can do it. I have to say this to myself 5 or 6 time a day right now.

12. If you need help with any questions about potty training, I would love to help or give advice. Remember I’m in the middle of it myself and I’m not an expert but I will help where I can. Just leave me a comment and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Mom Tip Wednesday

You want your kids to think you are beautiful, right! Well, if you want them to tell you that you are beautiful then speak of yourself in positive ways. Sometimes we get to caught up in saying I look fat or I feel ugly. Just remember, your kids hear every word!

You are Beautiful!!!

Starting my blog

I had several blog titles in mind. I just felt more connected to, "The Story After Happily Ever After", because the meaning fit me.

As time goes on, you will get to know me and why I chose this title.
